DEFINITIVELY  This week ended with my emotional stability, this week was a week of midterms. The midterms started on Monday and will end on Friday, I am really worried about the fact that even though I practice every day the language is still difficult for me. However I will not give up, definitely the Didactics midterm was difficult, the parts of dividing characteristics, true and false and multiple choice were good. The table exercises were complicated, I know the theory, I memorized what I was supposed to do, but doing the exercise hurt me. I would have liked to create another story with the Cuissenaries but I did not. I am aware and performed my activities as I should have, however I hope that the midterm will not affect me too much in this record.  We were tested on what we knew about teaching methods, GTM, TDM, The Silence Methot and so forth.  I found out that I knew a lot of things, I just hope they are correct. :)

Teaching methods presentations

This week we had the presentations about the different teaching methods.   We learned a lot about the different teaching methods with presentations, examples and exercises, especially how we can apply them to teach others. I was very impressed by the different and creative presentations, especially the group of Irene de Regina and Misael, who were very entertaining since they did not use words because they talked about the silent method, they dressed up as mimes and taught us how to use it in a fun and clear way. My topic of presentation was the grammar translation method which is based on the study of grammar and English vocabulary through reading and writing exercises as well as text translation. The teaching of a foreign language, as in other teaching methods, can be done in different ways using different techniques and methodologies. I exhibited with my partner Kevin, we had fun doing it, because we looked for information about it. We made a presentation which I liked very much...

The silent way

Imagen
The silent method is an approach to language teaching that is based on subordinating teaching to learning. It was developed by Caleb Gattegno, an Egyptian teacher working in London in the 1950s. The overall goal of Silent Way is to help beginner-level students acquire basic fluency in the target language, with the ultimate goal of achieving native language proficiency and good pronunciation. An important part of this skill is being able to use the language to express themselves; students must be able to express their thoughts, feelings and needs in the target language.  To help them achieve this, teachers emphasize self-reliance. Students are encouraged to actively explore the language and develop their own "internal criteria" as to what is linguistically acceptable. The silent mode makes to use of specialized teaching materials: colored Cuisenaire sticks, the sound color chart, word charts, and Fidel charts. Cuisenaire rods are made of wood and come in ten different lengths,...

Berlitz Method

The direct or natural method is basically, the easiest way to learn a different language. And the most effective way to teach it. The learner is immersed in an environment that make it easy the progress, with everyday sentences as first step during the process. All the instructions given by the teacher or opinions, conversations, even the most trivial by the students, needs to be in the target language. The oral communications skills are organized progressively with intensive communication teacher-student. Making emphasized in the correct pronunciation and grammar to share the ideas between them. The grammar is taught inductively which means that the learner needs to know the grammatical rules first, and then applied the knowledge in a real verbal expression. One of the most interesting features of this method is that the basic vocabulary is learned with real demonstrations, pictures, etc. Things a student can physically interact with, like dramatize. In the other hand th...

The Audiolingual Method (The ARMY Method)

Imagen
During the World War II (WWII) soldiers needed to speak and understand the language of allies and enemies ASAP to protect themselves from secret attacks, and better organize allies . Based on the origin, this method it emphasized on listening and speaking before reading and writing. The dialogues with native speakers used to be the best technique to improve during the WWII. Imitation, memorization and repetition was the emphasis in this technique and situation in particular. Avoiding use the mother tongue to create an favorable environment to learn.   The best techniques of this method are: REPETITION DRILL : students repeat what they hear as accurately as possible. SUBSTITUTION DRILL : learners repeat the line maintaining the structure but setting their own example. QUESTION-ANSWER DRILL : is basically an interaction between teacher and students asking and answering questions each other. TRANSFORMATION DRILL: students change sentences from negative to affirma...

Direct Method

Hello welcome ✌🏽🌈 this we learned about the different teaching methods 👩🏻‍🏫 but the one we are going to talk about now is the direct method.   If you are looking 👀 for an effective and fun way to teach your students the direct method can be an excellent choice🍃 This method is based on total language immersion, which means that children or adults learn through oral 👄communication and constant practice,🏃🏻‍♀ The direct method is based on learning in depth the language we want to learn whether it is English, French, Italian, Chinese...etc.🇺🇸🇫🇷🇰🇷 To apply the teaching method of this method it is important that the teacher speaks 🗣 only in the language in which we want to learn, for example if we want to learn English 🇺🇸the teacher must speak in English all the time and use visual 👀 materials and gestures to help understand the meaning of the words, as long as we avoid our mother tongue we should avoid translations and encourage the active participation 🙋🏻‍♂of...

The Direct Method

Imagen
The direct method is a methodology for teaching✌ languages that consists of establishing an immediate and visual association between experience and expression, between words, phrases, idioms and their physical or bodily expression,🙈🙉🙊 without relying on the students' mother tongue. This method is included among the so-called natural methods and is the most widespread. The application of the direct method for teaching English implies, therefore, that English will be the only language to be used in the classroom in order to try that immersion in the language facilitates their learning in the most organic way possible, just as they learned their mother💖 tongue. Exclusive use of the target language practical use is always demonstrated through sentences. Promotes oral communication skills in a progressive manner. Objects, drawings and other multimedia materials are used to show the student the meaning of the words or concepts taught in order to facilitate the association of ideas. R...

This week!!

This week I was sick 😷 but we learned about Grammar Translation Method😁 T his method focuses on the study of English grammar and vocabulary through reading and writing exercises. 🏃 This method is based on the teaching of a foreign language 👀as it happens in other teachings, that is to say, every human being has a mother tongue which is the language with which we learned to speak, we learned to communicate with our surroundings and with people. However, there are other languages, which we can also learn and we call them languages, goals that are completely different from our mother language.  However, thanks to the grammatical method of translation we can learn more than one language. This method, as its name suggests, is related to learning the grammar of the English language. In order to later use this knowledge in the translation of texts, it is mainly focused on the development of English through writing and reading. We also learned about Scaffolding in education, a v...

Scaffolding

Imagen
Scaffolding is a pedagogical strategy that aims to facilitate students' learning and promote the development of their skills. It consists of providing temporary and structured support to students while they acquire new knowledge or develop specific skills.  is based on the idea that students learn best when they receive adequate support and guidance. Teachers using this strategy provide students with the tools and knowledge necessary to perform a task, but also give them the opportunity to make decisions and solve problems on their own. And allows students to gradually advance from a lower to a higher level of proficiency as they gain confidence and skill.

Grammar Translation Method

Imagen
Let's talk a little about the Grammar Translation Method It is the classical method where it was used to help students in reading text for better understanding of foreign culture or in understanding different languages, focusing on reading and writing, and grammar of the target language (any language that is not their mother tongue). For example: My native language is Spanish, so my target language is English.   Since students focus more on reading and writing in the target language the learning of new vocabulary may be facilitated more by the mother tongue, since we must understand to learn and the use of the mother tongue could be important to help students be able to translate from one language to another.
